Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children review

The book I read is called Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children, written by Ransom Riggs, released in 2011. It is the first book out of three, in this series. It is about a boy named Jacob, who is sixteen years old, that travels to a remote island and discovers an orphanage where all the Peculiar children live. The children are called Peculiars, because each child has some sort of special power. They are all kept hidden behind a bog, in an orphanage to stay protected by monsters known as wights. Wights are monsters that resemble humans, but have no pupils, leaving their eyes as white, which is how they can tell it’s a monster. Miss Peregrine is the protector of the children known as a ymbryne, which is a special type of peculiar that can transform into a bird and control time. Her job is to create a time loop where each day is reversed over and over to protect the children from getting exposed from monsters. Since there is a time loop, the children cannot age physically, but they can age mentally.

what I liked about the book- in some random pages, there will be a picture of a peculiar person. The pictures give me a better interpretation of the story’s characters.

what I didn’t like about the book- at the end, the characters went on another adventure, in contiuation of the series into the second book, which was like a cliff hanger.
